How to take care of your Snow Scope Probe

Our products are designed to function in extreme winter conditions for many years, but a little bit of care and maintenance can go a long way in ensuring the longevity of your Scope:

• Make sure that your scope is stored in the provided case. This ensures that it will stay asleep (low power mode) and that sensors are protected when not in use. Leave the batteries installed between uses, but take them out over the summer or long periods without use (treat it like your avalanche transceiver).

• Take care not to scratch the window - avoid probing into rocks. While the Scope will still function with minor scratching, too many scratches will cause the depth system to lose accuracy.

• If the sensor tip builds up ice or mud, clean it off with your finger/glove in the field in between profiles. If mud is really stuck on, use a damp or dry towel when back inside. Do not submerge the Scope in water when cleaning.

• Avoid over-forcing the tip sensor. While designed to withstand significant impact outside of the sensor’s usable range, it is still possible to break the sensor. Avoid probing into rock or impenetrable ice.

• Avoid any unnecessary impact, such as dropping the probe or intentionally probing into the ground. It is possible to break the sensors inside the scope with too much impact.
