Collapsible Pole Re-Tensioning

Instructions to tighten the collapsible pole if it loosens

Most users should never have to take the following steps. Only do so if your probe becomes loose over time.

If the collapsible pole on the SnowScope probe has lost proper tension to engage the button, follow the following steps

1. Unscrew the black top cap from the top of the collapsible pole. Note: the threads on this component used loctite upon shipment. If removal by hand isn’t possible, we recommend using a vice with soft gripping surfaces to not damage the top cap.

1. Extend the pole. Using a large flat head screwdriver bit with an extension, carefully remove the plastic lock nut.

1. With the pole still extended, use the same flat head bit to adjust the tension in the cable tensioner. (Turning the nut left, or backing the lock nut towards the top of the pole will increase cable tension, while turning the nut right will decrease the tension). Be very careful to not loosen the nut too much - if you loosen too far, the top section of the probe will detach and become very difficult to reassemble.

1. With the pole still extended and under proper tension, re-install the plastic lock nut. Be sure to tighten the lock nut snug against the cable tensioner nut.

2. Reinstall the top cap. Blue Loctite is recommended to keep this component from coming loose during extended probe use.
